On spring break, my family and I traveled to Antigua where we rented a house and visited for a week. Antigua is an island that I would definitely recommend to anybody that just wants to decompress and do as little as possible.

During our visit we would relax at the beach or the pool that was at our house in the mornings. Later, we would go out and do some afternoon excursions. We went and had an afternoon excursion at the Saint John’s Harbor, which was once visited by the French voyager Samuel de Champion during his voyage to the New World in 1604. Saint John’s is the chief port of commercial trade for the island of Antigua. There are a couple of restaurants along the Harbor if one would like to sit and watch the boats come in and out of the Harbor.

Another excursion was when we visited Antigua’s Donkey Sanctuary, which is located on the eastern side of the island. The Sanctuary shelters more than 150 Donkeys and was a popular place to visit amongst tourists. Also, there is an adoption program where you can donate money for the Donkey’s supplies and they will send you updates on your chosen Donkey. My family and I adopted the Donkeys Pirate and Baby!

Our third excursion was a charter boat tour. The boat trip was a private affair and took us all around the other islands that surrounded Antigua. Touring around the islands really showed how beautiful the island truly was.

Though we weren’t able to go to the Stingray excursion I heard that it was a highly recommend excursion to do for visitors. We had tried to book a day to go and swim with the Stingrays, but unfortunately they were all booked during the week that we were visiting.

I hope when you want a trip to decompress that you pick Antigua as your number one destination. I promise the trip will make you totally refreshed for going back to the real world.
