My favorite trip that I have ever taken through all my travels was to Kenya, Africa. My family and I traveled there during a school holiday and as a graduation present to my twin brothers. At the time it had to be the longest journey of my life to get there but the long flight was well worth it.
On our first night we stayed in Nairobi before heading off to the Maasai Mara. We traveled in a 12 seater bus to get to the Mara and it took us 5-6 hours but the views were stunning. The jet lag and long day of travel started weighing on us when we got to our destination so we decided to go to bed and start early the next day.
The next morning we had the incredible experience of watching an Elephant give birth to her baby. Our tour guide commented on how our trip started off with a once in life time experience because an Elephant's pregnancy length is 18-22 months.
One night during our stay at our hotel, the Maasai Mara Warriors came and performed the traditional jumping dance. After our visit in the Maasai Mara we went back to Nairobi to pick up our care that we rented.
Later, we traveled to the Amboseli reserve, which had a spectacular view of Mount Kilimanjaro. One day while we were staying at the hotel my mom decided to give a baby monkey a potato chip and 5 seconds later all the monkeys started snatching food right from people's hands. When this happened my sister and I decided to go back to our rooms and wait out the monkey invasion, but a mother and her baby had snuck in through our opened window and into our bedroom looking for food. We started freaking out and the maintenance man had to come in and chase her out.
Our next adventure on our trip was to the Severin Safari Camp, which reminded me a lot of "glamping." They had giant tents and a pool in their designated part of the Savannah. At night when we wanted to go back to our tent we had to be escorted back to our tent with a guard, who carried a riffle on him in case any animals attacked, especially Hippos.
After our two night visit at the camp we headed off to Mombasa where we stayed in The Traveller's Beach Club, which is located on a beautiful beach. Along the beach is a lot of the local people of Mombassa selling their goods, renting out horses or camels to ride a long the beach and sailors to take people deep-sea fishing.
As I said in the beginning of this blog post Kenya has been by far my favorite place to visit. The experience alone of seeing the animals in their own habitat is a trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend doing a Safari when you get a chance.
