Recently, my family and I traveled to Tijuana, Mexico. This trip was different than any of the other trips that I have taken because one of my brothers and his fiancé (who is from Tijuana) were getting married. Along with going to Tijuana for the wedding, my family and I decided to have 4 days in Ensenada, Mexico on the ocean in order to have some R and R time.
The plan was for everybody who was coming in for the wedding to come in the Thursday before the Saturday wedding so we could enjoy pre-wedding events on the Friday. My family and I arrived at the San Diego airport where we met up with my future sister in law, and her siblings who would take us over the border. The drive from the airport to our hotel in Tijuana was a quick thirty-minute drive. As we were checking in to our hotel my dad got a call from airport security to tell us that he had left one of his bags along with three bridesmaids dresses at the airport. My mom, sister and I were very upset that he had left the dresses behind. Luckily, we had my cousins coming in from England that evening and were able to pick up my dad’s bag and the three dresses from security and bring them to the hotel. In the evening, we had dinner with my sister-in-law’s family and then caught up with our relatives followed by an early night because of jet lag.
On Friday, we had a rehearsal dinner at a Vineyard. Tradionally, wedding rehearsals are just for people who are participating in the wedding along with close family. However, the majority of people who had come for the wedding had come from far away so everybody was invited to the vineyard. It took two busses and about one and a half hours to get to the vineyard from Tijuana. It was a very beautiful vineyard, especially when the sun was setting. We stayed for 3-4 hours and then were back in Tijuana by ten.
The next day was the wedding day. As a bridesmaid, I had to be up at eight in the morning to meet with the makeup and hairstylist, which took a couple hours. Then the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and my family all had photos done. Later, we met up with the bride and her family to do more photos. After all the photos were done we headed off to the church for the ceremony. The ceremony included a Mass and an Irish Blessing from my mother’s heritage. Once the ceremony was over we went to the reception which included dinner for 120 people and dancing from 10 PM until 4 in the morning. Everyone had a great time.
We had a few hours to sleep and then had to get ready to check out from the hotel by eleven. After our goodbyes to everybody, my family along with my aunt, uncle and a couple of my cousins headed off to Ensenada, Mexico.
In Ensenada, we had rented a house on the ocean from Airbnb. As we were all so exhausted from the wedding we decided to stay in the house for the night. After a full nights rest we went and explored Ensenada. Unfortunately, our timing wasn’t that great as their had been a cruise that had come in that morning. However, it was still a beautiful town to explore and we got a lot of shopping done, and had the best fish tacos at El Tacomiendo.
The following morning some of my family member’s decided that they wanted to play Golf. The house that we had rented had a golf course, which the ocean surrounded. On one of the golfing holes we had an incident where a baby Rattlesnake had gotten into one of the carts. Naturally, this freaked us all out but the golf course had signs all through the course about how the Rattlesnake was protected. After calling the front desk to tell them that we had to abandon one of the carts and we continued on with our game.
On our last day in Ensenada we focused on getting as much sun as we could possibly get before having to go back to reality. Before heading home we stopped in Coronado Island and stayed at the beautiful Loews resort there. Also we visited La Hoya, just north of San Diego.
All in all it was a great trip. We met some wonderful people, visited 2 new cities and added to my portfolio of places seen and experienced.
